A former professional football player, Lockett was a second-round draft choice for the Kansas City Chiefs in 1997. During his professional football career, he also played for Washington, Jacksonville and the New York Jets, while owning and operating a business. In 1998, Lockett and his family formed the Lock-ett Up Foundation to help increase academic achievement in public schools; among many accomplishments, his foundation established the Academic Learning Center for student athletes at Hale Library on the campus of Kansas State University (KSU). He is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees at KSU. Lockett earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Kansas State University, where he was an All-American wide receiver and won academic honors.
Currently, Kevin Lockett is the Chiefs Finanical Officer for the Kansas Bioscience Authority. Previously, he served as Chief Operations Officer for the Urban Entrepreneur Partnership Inc. (UEP) at the Kauffman Foundation. He provided management for the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation’s Minority Entrepreneurship division, advancing the Foundation’s initiatives to promote the growth and success of minority entrepreneurs. Kevin was also the Deputy Director of the Urban Entrepreneur Partnership (UEP), a partnership between the National Economic Council at the White House, the Business Roundtable and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, designed to help grow minority entrepreneurs around the country. In addition, he served as the Deputy Director of the UEP Gulf Coast, Inc. an initiative designed to encourage entrepreneurship and business development in the Gulf Coast regions devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Lockett had also served the program as a small business coaching consultant, responsible for coaching minority companies in the areas of accounting, financial analysis, operations management, and project management. In 2004, after selling his company, Lockett joined the Foundation as an entrepreneur-in-residence, advising the minority entrepreneurship team, and working to raise angel investment funds for minority businesses in Kansas City.
Kevin enjoys golfing as well as spending time with his lovely wife of 12 years, Cheryl and their four handsome sons, Tyler 21, Sterling 10, Jacob 5 and Jordan 5. They currently reside in Leawood, Kansas
